I got a different treatment as well. I was told that I can finish the rest of the day in the office- yeah right. I left as fast as I could right after I sent a goodbye email. BTW, it's quite interesting to see who acknowledges your departure by their response or lack of.

The process really does matter based on your tenure. I was told that the firm was parting ways with me and that I needed to arrange for the best day during the following week to be my final day. I dropped my things off and then made my rounds in the office to say goodbye on my last day. Not a huge deal... + a trunkfull of severance to pay for my children's college fund.

I guess we all get different experience but I was told that I was let go by the partner, the partner left and papers were given to me by HR. I was told to give back all firm belongings and leave the premises on the spot. I was told my stuff would be packed in boxes and that boxes would be shipped to my home.
I was not allowed to speak to anybody !

Can I keep my phone number?
or
What do I need to do to cancel my phone?
What other accounts do I need to cancel?
Can I have a lawyer look at anything before I sign?
Can I use a lawyer from Hyatt prepaid legal?
Can I use remaining Deloitters as references?
If my company life insurance and disability ends today does that mean my severance paychecks won't have those deductions?
Can I change my 401k deductions for my severance pay?
How does the COBRA subsidy work?
How long do I have to spend my medical flex money?
What about flex parking or mass transit?
How long before my corporate card is canceled?
What happens to my points?
Can I have an hour or two to copy my files?
Do I have an opportunity to transition my work?
How many people are being let go from my group?
How soon will I have access to alumnet?
How soon can I file for unemployment?
Am I still legally an employee next week?
Can I tell recruiters and DOL the same story?
What are you doing for dinner tonight? |

I'll answer some that I can answer off the top of my head. The rest you'll get on the fateful day in documents.

What do I need to do to cancel my phone? YOU HAVE TO CALL THE VENDOR WITHIN A WEEK.
What other accounts do I need to cancel?
Can I have a lawyer look at anything before I sign? THE SEPARATION MEMBORANDUM MUST BE SIGNED; THE GENERAL RELEASE MUST BE NOTARIZED.
Can I use a lawyer from Hyatt prepaid legal?
Can I use remaining Deloitters as references?
If my company life insurance and disability ends today does that mean my severance paychecks won't have those deductions? CORRECT
Can I change my 401k deductions for my severance pay?
How does the COBRA subsidy work?
How long do I have to spend my medical flex money?
What about flex parking or mass transit?
How long before my corporate card is canceled?
What happens to my points? CANCELED ON YOUR LAST DAY
Can I have an hour or two to copy my files? DO THIS BEFORE YOU EVEN GO IN.
Do I have an opportunity to transition my work? NOT A FAT CHANCE. THAT WOULD EXTEND YOUR TENURE WITH THEM.
How many people are being let go from my group? VAGUE ANSWERS GIVEN.
How soon will I have access to alumnet? ABOUT A WEEK OR SO.
How soon can I file for unemployment?
Am I still legally an employee next week? Can I tell recruiters and DOL the same story?
What are you doing for dinner tonight?

Question for 401K matching:
When does Deloitte pay the 25% 401K matching contribution? At the end of the calender year?
How does one know if the 25% had been paid and sent the Vanguard? Does it appear in the statement?
What happens if one is laid off before Deloitte sends the money? Does Deloitte keep it or send us a check at the end of the year?

401k match is paid in april, i believe. You must be employed a the time of the matching payment to receive it. Once you are laid off 401k contributions end.
the only deductions on severence payments are for health and dental insurance.. no k etc.

My question is a bit out-of-line but it seemed like my thread got deleted together with the spams..
I am a fresh-grad and would be joining Deloitte ERS this July (thus no account yet)
Just wonder if any1 ever switch from ERS to FAS, even before commencing employment ? how's the success rate ?
HR guys' here are quite friendly , not sure how'd they view the issue..
Cheers |

| Honestly the HR person whom I spoke with barely knew answers to any of the questions that I asked. He kept referring me to 1-800-DELOITTE. I was very disappointed with the level of knowledge he had. These are the so called "BEST" people now remain employed with "D". |

Eh...risk having a red flag ingrained on your forehead with this one. I don't know of anyone who's done it before starting at the firm but I do know of several (including myself) who successfully switched between service lines once I've established my track record and showed good progress. You'll never know unless you ask but just assume the risk that they will remember this request from day one in a not so positive light. Why didn't you apply with FAS in the first place?

Dude we are taking on water and FAS has a hold on hiring for a bit now(at least at a few levels). However, FAS>AERS. |

If I were you, I would look somewhere else and explore other firms unless you want to commit a career suicide. Deloitte is not a safe place to be.

Your post needs to be filed under bitter. As long as the economy sucks, very few places are safe. But once again, I love reading posts from morons that think that Deloitte is the only company impacted and laying people off.

If Deloitte is not safe, where should we apply? Don't just state the problem, provide solutions to the problem. I've been trying to figure that out while collecting my unemployment and looking for a "safe" bet.

The solution- stop having drinks, sex and sushi at Deloitte's expense. Can't believe that just recently, last week to be precise Partners are enjoying $2000 dinners with sushi and caviers while they are laying off Managers and the rest.
Stop this nonsense Partners!! Don't you know, walls have ears. Please don't expense sex for client entertainment. It really sucks when guys are being laid off. When things are great no one cares but please don't do when things are gloomy.
