Are they open to negotiation?
Should I ask for more?
Has anyone gotten more before?
Has anyone sued Deloitte for unlawful termination? |

Sorry to hear that you have been let go. Hope you find a new and better job quickly. Wishing you the best!!
I had a question on your severance. Was the severance 4 weeks after 40% tax or was it 4 weeks pay taxed at 40%? Did you not get additional weeks for signing the general release? How did they calculate it? It seems from other posts that it's been 2 weeks for each year and 2 or 4 weeks for signing the general release. By that standard you should have got 4 - 6 weeks. |

There is no enhanced severance. When I asked they said 4 weeks for signing the GR. They also thought (Keep in mind thought but not sure) in October one did not get anything if they did not sign the GR. This time you get the severance but not the extra weeks. I don't think this is true.
I have been treated well by Deloitte. But there were a few people including my counsellor who yanked me about. It was not a nice feeling. Each time I interacted with him I felt like leaving Deloitte.
What was funny was when he asked me if he can be of any help... |

For newcomers, it is a vicious circle. You don't have network ==> you don't get projects ==> lower utilization ==> ppl are afraid to staff you on project as they think you might be let go ==> lower utilization.
On top of that, the principal tells me - we don't have project and you have been on the beach so long. For a moment, I asked myself - should I laugh or cry? Laugh because she is so stupid to say what she said; cry because of my mistake to get influenced by such stupid folks and choose this company while I had a choice of companies while in school. |

12. Thing that pisses you off most about this situation (or any other comments...): I was asked to roll off from the project on Sunday. I received a call from my project management on Sunday and they asked me not to come for the project on from Monday onwards (I was asked to be in office on Monday). However my manager told that the decision was from Partner and she wants me to be in the project at least for 2 weeks. The thing which really pisses me off is communicating such a big decision on weekends. Moreover Deloitte Folks (New BTAs) calling me regularly (after getting layoff) to get knowledge transfer. I wasted my phone bill patiently answering to their questions. I am not worried about money I am worried about my time.
The best thing ever could happen in my life is getting layoff from such an inefficient firm.
Good to know E&Y, Accenture and KPMG are recruiting in 1000's. Hope so at least now Deloitte will understanding the power of outsourcing and will not claim other consulting companies as body shoppers.
I have couple of advice of Deloitte:
1. I accept we have strong business knowledge. But technically we are very weak.
2. Please have multiple software process models. Our latest SD play book will adhere to CMM level and not to CMMI level 3. Also consider building some good agile practices for short term project.
3. Services’ thinking is good concept but you should have enough technical knowledge to implement SOA. SOA needs 50% business Knowledge + 50 % technical knowledge.
4. Please don’t use ITASCA if you don’t have good infrastructure and very very strong .Net implementers for sure it will screw your project. Best Eg: Most of the projects in Harrisburg lol . Please don’t rely on this framework.
Great things in Deloitte:
1. Good number of PTO's
2. Good food when you are with Partners
3. Applause Awards
4. MCC concept (expecting Deloitte to use it effectively after this economic downturn)
5. Our business knowledge in Public Sector (specifically in Harrisburg)
6. Good Health insurance plans |

Hey... Since you were in Harrisburg and are gone now. Want to mention which project?
I am a new guy in Hburg and a new BTA and thought that most of us would be safe but that is obviously not the case.
and yes, ITASCA is a waste of time since most of the architects hate it anyhow. |

No relocation advised or allowed. I am sure that the DC office is lacking citizen resources. I would've moved without relocation assistance. |

I joined last year as an experienced hire. I was a steal for them with good relevant experience but same salary as ignorant new campus hires. Didn't bill a single day since I joined but have been working for clients. Mid yr was nothing but great - I personally sent across great reviews and testimonials to my counselor.
I got the meeting invite a few days before so I was well prepared. |

As you joined them last year, you must've been expensive when compared to their existing staff. Probably, that may have been the reason for the dismissal. Of course, they will never tell you that.
D's action to hire ppl last year at very high salaries was clearly absurd. They can't strategize for themselves; no wonder, they are hired seldom for strategy by anyone in commercial space.
Here's my account.
1. Layoff Date: 1/20
2. Office: --
3. Service Type (audit, tax, FAS, consulting): Consulting
4. Consulting line (S&O, HC, EA, TI): TI
5. Position: Consultant

8. Most recent rating: N/A
9. Utilization at dismissal: 48%
10. On the beach when let go? (y/n): Y
11. H1B (y/n)? N
12. Thing that pisses you off most about this situation (or any other comments...):
I submitted leave application for my marriage for a couple of weeks. That got approved earlier. Just one week prior to the leave, they let me go... so ungrateful of them!
Now, one needs to get married per D's business conditions - an aweful employer !
Stupid ppl - why did they hire me if they didn't have work at all? I had asked them about the pipeline of work that suits my profile during my interview because I was coming from BGPT and it was a horror story in BGPT. D was hiring BGPTers in scores.
While traveling, the perdiem for such a large brandname is so low. I told the perdiem to a friend in SAP and he was laughing at me.

I definitely don't think I was more expensive. I was paid at par or lower than an inexperienced campus hire and I didn't get any joining bonus either.
But yes. I also wonder why they even hired me. At my intvw I had asked then about them recruiting during the down economy ( this was way back in july) and they gave me the story that DC has always grown and they are growing in double digit numbers. Hah! |
