Similar to the post for last year (2008) poster, I'd like to use this thread to compile information about who is getting laid off this second round in January 2009. Please use the other "massive layoffs!" thread for discussion, I'd like to just be a "tracker" so we can see any trends. Please copy/paste this list and fill in as much or as little as you'd like:

1. Layoff Date:
2. Office:
3. Service Type (audit, tax, FAS, consulting):
4. Consulting line (S&O, HC, EA, TI):

5. Position:
6. Years with Deloitte:
7. Severance (in weeks):

8. Most recent rating:
9. Current utilization:
10. On the beach when let go? (y/n):
11. H1B (y/n)?

12. Thing that pisses you off most about this situation (or any other comments...):

1. Layoff Date: End of Jan 09
2. Office: prefer to not mention
3. Service Type (audit, tax, FAS, consulting): Consulting
4. Consulting line (S&O, HC, EA, TI): HC

5. Position: Manager
6. Years with Deloitte: 9
7. Severance (in weeks): 18 weeks + 4 weeks for signing release (so it's 2 weeks per year with firm)

8. Most recent rating: 2 YE for last 2 years
9. Current utilization: 90
10. On the beach when let go? (y/n): N
11. H1B (y/n)? N

12. Thing that pisses you off most about this situation (or any other comments...): Partner who delivered the message seemed fake and didn't really care that I was getting laid off. The only thing that was important was to end the call in the alloted 30 minutes. Partner also would not say why exactly I didn't make the cut. Just ran off a litany of criteria they used to evaluate the list. Granted they used objective criteria to do some eval but at the end of the day, it's who you know and is willing to fight for you. If you don't have someone who believes you are valuable and have a skillset that is marketable then you are out of luck.

2 Weeks for each year in Deloitte was what it was earlier also.. Why did they say in the call today that Severance is Enhanced?

Good call gumdrop. I've stickied this so we can start tracking info for this latest round.

Remember everyone, let's keep this information only (and direct questions regarding someone's post). All discussions/rumors/opinions should be kept to the Master layoffs thread (also stickied)

Oh and I removed the 3 posts regarding how to sticky this to keep the thread clean (so no, you're not going crazy Laughing )

1. Layoff Date: 1/16
2. Office: Boston
3. Service Type (audit, tax, FAS, consulting): Consulting
4. Consulting line (S&O, HC, EA, TI): TI

5. Position: Consultant
6. Years with Deloitte: 3.5
7. Severance (in weeks): 5 + 2 w/release

8. Most recent rating: YE08:3 latest PDA: 2
9. Current utilization: 94-95% FY09 incl holidays + beach
10. On the beach when let go? (y/n): Y
11. H1B (y/n)? N

12. Thing that pisses you off most about this situation (or any other comments...): Why are they letting go of their best, most versatile people? They had no visibility into what I was doing recently, nor did they care. Also, people I reached out to help wouldn't or couldn't do anything.

At least I got a day's notice and was not escorted out of the office. I had time to send a farewell email and respond to some of the replies. I appreciate how hard a decision it is, so it was smart of them not to make things worse by alienating the person leaving.

Bro, are you in the line for promotion this year? Are you aligned to any industry? do partners /sM know you well in the firm? 95% utilized does not necessarily mean u have deployable skills. think about it for 5 minutes and move on .life is too precious to be worrying about D.

I just noticed that the severance is quoted in "weeks." I've seen a lot of 4 weeks. Is this correct? Is it not in "months?" Four weeks is nothing! Confused

Deloitte has the worst severance package of all companies...

Lehman gave new joinees 3 months + 30K. This is for the new joinees..
Pfizer has 1 year for more than 5 years
Shell has 1.5 years for mroe than 5 years

I find it interesting that you're quoting non-consulting companies for comparison. Granted it's not great but it's hard to compare these sort of things cross-industry/profession.

But, again, let's keep this on topic here. Please feel free to start a new thread discussing severance or anything else and use this one for layoff information and direct questions surrounding those posts.

I'm not sure why you can't compare. If this was a competitive benchmarking then you look within industry. And as a labor market this is within industry. I could do the same work for Shell, Pfizer, Shell or Deloitte. So not sure why these can not be compared.

12. Thing that pisses you off most about this situation (or any other comments...): People are paying for comapny not having enough projects, they should not have hired like mad when time were good, instead focused on improving skillset of staff they already had

1. Layoff Date: 1/23

2. Office: Chicago

3. Service Type (audit, tax, FAS, consulting): Consulting

4. Consulting line (S&O, HC, EA, TI):

5. Position: Sr. Consultant

6. Years with Deloitte: 2 yrs + change

7. Severance (in weeks): 4w + 2 w for general release + PTO

8. Most recent rating: YE08:3 latest PDA: 2

9. Current utilization: 58% FY09 incl holidays + beach

10. On the beach when let go? (y/n): Y

12. Thing that pisses you off most about this situation (or any other comments...):

If D lets go of their performers at this point in time, who will join them from campuses? who will join them from industry?

The kids from schools may or may not get it. However, it is easy to deduce. A company that is letting go of their 3s is hiring on campuses. It is similar to Jeff Skilling asking employees to use entire 401Ks to constitute of only Enron stocks while he himself selling it on the other hand.

In good times, I joined them at a lower rate than industry. The notion was that your value outside the firm is always significantly higher than in the firm. I saw that happening as well. My colleagues who left the firm one year ago are much better off. I never got the benefit of the Green Dot brand though. If industry people intend to join, they must negotiate higher severance packages in their signing letters.

Sorry to hear the case and understandable why you are frustated

I got 4 weeks for each year of service + 4 weeks for general release + PTO in Oct ( S&O- SC)

So i guess they have halved the severance package from Oct level instead of enhancig it.
